Salute to the Good Life September 22 at the Capitol

The Nebraska Sesquicentennial Commission’s gala tribute to Nebraska’s history, culture and military personnel will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday September 22 on Centennial Mall north of the Nebraska State Capitol. Activities will include a mobile children’s museum, food trucks from across the state, the Nebraska National Guard Band, a laser light show, musical performances, the Remembering Our Fallen Memorial display and the evening will conclude with a fireworks show. Several streets around the Capitol will be closed for set up on Thursday evening and then all day Friday for the fun family friendly event. Public parking ($5) will be available at 6:00 p.m. in the parking garage at 14th and L Street and the surface lot at 17th and K Streets. Additional parking is available in the downtown parking garages.  The Capitol will be open until 7:00 p.m. on Friday the 22nd, tours will be offered all day on the regular schedule and then at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.  Capitol visitors should enter the building on ground floor and proceed to the second floor for the guided tour. There will be no tower access after 5:00 p.m. Capitol visitors will be able to see the newly installed courtyard fountains. The last element of Capitol architect Bertram Goodhue’s design, the fountains, were installed in celebration of Nebraska’s Sesquicentennial. Courtyards are located on ground floor near the north elevators. The Landmark Store at the Capitol will be open until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening with Sesquicentennial, Capitol and Nebraska gift items and souvenirs available. The Landmark Store is in the south center hallway on ground floor of the Capitol.  Family activities will begin at 3:00 p.m. and Governor Pete Ricketts will open the festivities at 4:00 p.m. on the north side of the Capitol.
