Ready for Winter

The Office of the Capitol Commission is readying the Nebraska State Capitol for winter. The main entrance at the top of the north stairs on K Street has been closed. With the sun never reaching the north steps any snow or ice on the granite will stay until the temperature rises in he springtime. The Promenade decks and courtyards will be closed for the same reason, the difficulty of keeping snow off and ice forming. Capitol Commission staff are preparing the courtyards for winter closing as well. Maintenance staff have drained, cleaned and covered the fountains and the grounds staff are planting tulips in anticipation of the coming of spring next year. All ground floor entrances will be open for public access, and the accessible entrance is located under the north stairs, via the sidewalks along the north horseshoe drive.
