The 2024 Office of the Capitol Commission commemorative ornament acknowledges the past and future of the Nebraska State Capitol. Early in the first phase of the Capitol’s design and construction process 1922 -1932, light fixtures available from national manufacturers were specified. The Governor’s Hearing Room, completed in 1925, contains bronze wall sconces with Victorian design references, a ribboned cartouche wall bracket holding the arm of the lamp. These cast bronze light fixtures are being restored to their original condition during Phase 4 of the current Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Replacement Project. These original fixtures, cleaned and rewired, will join the newly installed geothermal HVAC system to serve Governors and citizens who will use the room over the next 100 years.
