March brings busloads of fourth graders to Lincoln and the Capitol for their Nebraska History field trip. Students from across Nebraska visit the building hoping to take a tour, meet with their state senator and watch the Legislature in session. Most of the prime tour times, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. are already booked by school groups. But tours are offered every hour, except noon, starting at 9:00 and going until 4:00 p.m. School tours should always call in advance to schedule at guided tour or a self-guided walk-through tour; Capitol tour staff know the schedule and can make recommendations to best meet a group’s needs. Adult visitors and families are welcome to join a school tour. Those looking for a general public tour and not a fourth grade Nebraska History tour should try the 9:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. tour times, although school tours may be booked at these times also. Best to call the tour office at 402-471-0448 in advance and check the day’s schedule. Weekend tours are available and rarely have school groups scheduled.
