The Nebraska Hall of Fame Commission is seeking nominations for the 26th member of Nebraska’s Hall of Fame and will accept nominations through December 31, 2016. Located in the Capitol, Nebraska’s Hall of Fame brings public attention and official recognition to outstanding native Nebraskans, those who gained prominence while living in Nebraska, or those whose time in Nebraska influenced their contribution to society. Nebraskans may nominate individuals who have been deceased for at least 35 years and contributed to public affairs, the arts, the sciences and the professions. Secondary consideration is given to those who have excelled in entertainment, athletics, or fields of endeavor where publicity and recognition have been intense, but where a contribution to society is secondary. Activities that have added to the welfare of society and the reputation of Nebraska are weighed more heavily than activities primarily benefiting the nominee. Once every five years the Commission accepts nominations and selects finalists to be considered at public hearings in each congressional district. After the hearings, the Hall of Fame Commission may select one finalist for induction in 2019. Michael Smith, Director/CEO of the Nebraska State Historical Society, serves as secretary of the Hall of Fame Commission. A nomination form, plus other information about the Hall of Fame and its members, is available at nebraskahistory.org or request a form by writing to the Hall of Fame, P.O.
