Whether you’re in Lincoln for a football game or volleyball match, this weekend take some time to visit the Nebraska State Capitol. The building will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday the 30th and Monday September 1, the Labor Day holiday, and from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Guided tours are available on the hour, except at noon, at the north entrance on second floor. The tour lasts 30 – 40 minutes and features mosaics and murals which tell the story of Nebraska, including the 1922-1932 construction of the Tower on the Plains. Visitors can tour the Capitol on their own and discover the many members of Nebraska’s Hall of Fame in the galleries surrounding the 2nd floor rotunda. No visit to the Capitol is complete without a trip on the two north elevators to the 14th floor Memorial Hall and observation decks. Weather permitting, it is possible to see the sea of red moving through downtown on its way to Memorial Stadium and the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Both are visible from the north observation deck. The Capitol is a great place to visit and welcomes sports fans in town to cheer for or against the Huskers.
