First Lady Sally Ganem joined representatives from the Nebraska Forest Service, the Arbor Day Foundation, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Nebraska Association of Resource Districts to celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony on the grounds of the Nebraska State Capitol. Mrs. Ganem and St. Mary’s School students celebrated the planting of a Valley Forge Elm tree, one of two planted this year with the intent that the St. Mary’s students will bring their children to see the graceful full grow trees frame the west entrance of the Capitol. During the Arbor Day commemoration Dr. Scott Josiah, State Forester and Dan Lambe, Vice President for Programs reminded those in attendance of the importance of tree and the heritage of Nebraska as the home of J. Sterling Morton’s national Arbor Day holiday. The program concluded with First Lady Sally Ganem reading the Governor’s Arbor Day Proclamation.
