The Nebraska Humanities Council (NHC) sponsored display “Journey Stories” in the first floor rotunda of the Capitol will be available for viewing until 2:00 p.m. Friday January 18th. Over the weekend, the NHC sponsored a special children’s program which brought in dozens of families to view the exhibit and hear the presentations. The Smithsonian traveling exhibition, presented in the state by the Nebraska Humanities Council, explores how transportation and migration helped build our nation. Images, audio and artifacts tell the many journey stories of America across its history, from the arrival of the first Europeans in the North American to the great transformations brought by the railroad and the automobile. “Journey Stories” will conclude its Nebraska tour at Knight Museum and Sandhills Center in Alliance Jan. 28-March 8. “Journey Stories” is made possible in Nebraska with support from Union Pacific, Nebraska Cultural Endowment, State of Nebraska, Nebraska Rural Radio Network—KRVN, KTIC, and KNEB, Brown Transfer Company, and the “We the People” initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Funding for the family event was provided by an anonymous donor.

People of all ages and interests viewed the exhibit on Saturday, many studied each board and commented on gaining a new knowledge and understanding of historic events. The display has something for everyone and is presented in multiple layers and levels. Both adults and children will find something of interest to view. Younger children especially enjoyed the audio and video portion of the exhibit. The student below pushed every button and listened to each story of the Civil Rights Movement included in the exhibit.[RoyalSlider Error] No post attachments found.
