The Official State Holiday Tree is festively decorated and shines brightly in the Capitol Rotunda. The state holiday tree is adorned with ornaments representing all 93 of Nebraska’s counties and was lit in a special ceremony on December 9, 2012. Governor Dave Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem were on hand to celebrate the tree lighting and joined the many voices in song as Nebraskan’s welcomed the holiday season in the Capitol Rotunda. From now until 5:00 p.m. December 27th the 22 feet tall Blue Spruce holiday tree will stand in the rotunda. Visitors can view the tree during pubic hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; guided tours of the Capitol begin at the north entrance on second floor hourly, except at noon and are free. The Capitol will be closed on Christmas Day and on New Year’s Day. Commemorative Capitol ornaments featuring a north entrance corn medallion are available in the Landmark Store at the Capitol located in the south corridor on ground floor of the Capitol.
