At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday December 4, 2012 the Official Nebraska Holiday Tree arrived at the Capitol. The crew of 20 state staffers took about 1 and 1/2 hours to get the tree off the truck and into place in the Rotunda. The Official Holiday Tree will be lit in a ceremony in 2nd floor Rotunda on December 9 at 2:00 p.m. The program, sponsored by the Pinewood Bowl Committee, Inc. will begin with prelude music by the Bells of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 1:30 p.m. followed by musical performances from the North Star High School Choreographer Choir and the Scott Middle School Select Choir. After Governor Dave Heineman delivers his holiday message the Governor and First Lady Sally Ganem will light the tree which will be decorated with ornaments from Nebraska’s 93 counties. The free public program will conclude with a carol sing. Following the carols, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m,. the Governor and Mrs. Ganem will open the seasonally decorated Governor’s Residence to visitors.
