The Nebraska State Capitol will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday After. The Capitol will be open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the24th and at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday the 25th. Free guided tours will begin hourly, except at noon, at the north entrance on second floor. The observation decks will be open, weather permitting, until 5:00 p.m. when the Capitol closes. Even though the Capitol is closed for Thanksgiving, those wishing to walk off a little turkey dinner may come tour the exterior. Twice around on the sidewalk is about a mile, and for added benefit walkers can climb the stairs to reach the promenade decks where Lee Lawrie’s relief sculpture of Government and Law in Western Civilization may be more closely viewed. The promenade decks close at sunset, but walkers can enjoy the beautiful architectural detail from the sidewalks as the Capitol is lit until midnight.
