The Nebraska State Capitol will be closed to the public on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after. The building will reopen on Saturday November 30 at 10:00 a.m. Tours will be available at 10:00 and 11:00 am and at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 pm. The Capitol will be open for Tours on Sunday December 1st at 1:00 pm for regularly scheduled tours. The observation decks will be open weather permitting. For those wishing to walk off Thanksgiving dinner, twice around the Capitol’s sidewalks is about a mile. While walking and enjoying the play of light and shadow on the Capitol’s tower, be sure to notice the relief sculpture above the county names circling the Capitol. On the east side in the center above the entrance door you will find a scene from the Mayflower: a mother and child eagerly looking out the window of the Mayflower while others first determine how they will govern themselves in their new home. In celebration of Thanksgiving and the gifts the native Americans provided for the feast we celebrate, here is a detail of the pumpkins in one of the three large tapestries in the Nebraska Supreme Court.
